On a recent adventure to colorful Colorado, we found an amazing prehistoric hike near Fruita, Colorado. The craziest part about this hike was that it is a famous paleontology site known for the discovery of a Brontosaurus doggosaur in 1901. I had no idea that doggies were that big in the past!
Rating for Dinosaur Hill Trail:
I’ve awarded Dinosaur Hill two paws up because it was a super informative and fun trail for dogs and their people. There are some cool fossil discoveries and lots of learning for history buffs. The hike is only a mile, but it has a pretty steep grade at times, so be prepared for a little leg burner. This is another desert hike, so be sure to bring plenty of water and a treat for your pup. It’s easy to get dehydrated on desert hikes. Sunblock is also important, even if it’s a cooler day. I highly recommend this hike to pups at an intermediate skill level. No bunnysaurs, but I’ll be on the lookout for one next time 🙂 I’m hoping we will be able to catch a snowy trail or 2 this season. So far it’s been very sunny and 50’s out over here, so no signs of snow in the distance yet! I love Christmas too Speedy.

How cool. For all the 87 years I’ve lived in this state, I’ve never been to Dinosaur National Monument. I gotta get out more!! Thanks for sharing cool stuff about the state I really do love.

The Dinosaur region of Colorado is seriously unique, you’re lucky to live near it! I’d like to spend more time out there, we only had a couple days. What are your go to spots near Denver? We still have a lot of exploring to do 🙂

There are some great hikes in the western foothills. Devil’s Backbone nature trail near Loveland as well as Blue Lake near Boulder, and Bear Park are all shown in my Best Dog Hikes Colorado guide book. Mount Falcon is nice (a bit farther south) is interesting but can be crowded. Exploring the Red Rocks area is a must.

That face she gives you made my heart melt. I wanted to book her nose so badly. It looked like a much longer hike but one mile isn’t bad at all. And that kid in the suit made me howl.

The kid in the Dino suit was my hero. It must have been his dream to be out on Dinosaur Hill as a Dino. Scarlett has a very boopable nose 🙂

The coolest things we saw were the quarry site where the dino was discovered and the thigh bones of the brontosaurus which were reused as park benches. It was one of the coolest hikes we’ve found in the States, you need to check it out when travel is happening!

Wow what a grrreat place to hike. Imagine, you might even have discovered another dinosaur fossil. perhaps a new species which could be named a Scarlattosaurus.
